Marianne Reeves

Marianne was born in St. Louis, Missouri as an only child.  She said she was lonely because most of her friends had siblings to play with when they went home. When she was three and her father had completed his education, they moved to Illinois.  Marianne was thrilled when her parents adopted a three-year-old girl and her one-year-old brother.  They lived in a middle-class neighborhood next to a large grassy field near a church.  Many families lived in that neighborhood and there were lots of children to hang out with. Their father was a dentist, and their mother was quite ill with rheumatic heart disease.

As their mother’s health deteriorated, they moved to Washington state to be closer to dad’s family.  His mother, sister and her family lived in that area.  When driving to Washington the automobile ran over a beehive.  The bees flooded the car, and they were all frightened because the bees were copious.  They drove into a gas station and the father popped open the hood of the vehicle.  Hot angry bees flooded the area.  The attendant ran for cover leaving the dad to fend off the bees.  He took an air hose and successfully fiercely blasted the bees into the air.

Marianne became a feature writer for the high school newspaper and greatly enjoyed writing.  She started college with the intent to become a newspaper reporter and travel the world to cover the latest news stories.  She wrote for the college newspaper and had one article picked up by the associated press.  This dream was interrupted when she married  a high school friend. They have two children, a girl and a boy.  Meanwhile, Marianne decided that travelling the world to report the news was not compatible with being a wife and mother.  She completed college with a degree in business and became a  certified public accountant.  She had a good career in this field and retired for health reasons.

When she recovered, she elected to return to her passion for writing.  She has authored a number of children’s books and sincerely hopes that young people enjoy reading them.
